The two leaders spoke by telephone on Wednesday in the face of continued Israeli airstrikes in the besieged Gaza Strip. An official statement from Turkey said.

In a phone call, Erdogan told Putin that the international community should "teach Israel a strong and resilient lesson" against the treatment of Palestinians.

Erdogan also advised the Russian president that an international security force should be considered to protect the Palestinians.
